Search for a Geekvape Zeus tank and you get a stack of retailer listings, capacities that change from one shop to the next and coils presented as if they all fit. On Geekvape’s own site, meanwhile, the Zeus name has all but vanished in favour of a single letter.

Behind that change of label sits a family of tanks that share neither the same capacity nor, more importantly, the same coils. Here is how to find your way around before buying a tank or a pack of replacement coils.

Geekvape Zeus in brief, one name for the Z range

The Geekvape Zeus is the line of tanks Geekvape now sells under the letter Z. Several retailers still write it as “Z(eus)”, and the buy link for the Z Subohm Tank 5 on the manufacturer’s site still carries the word zeus. The Z Sub-ohm, Z Sub-ohm SE, Z Max, Z Subohm Tank 5, Z Nano 3 and the rebuildable ZX II RTA all belong to this family.

The trap for buyers lies in the coils. The Z Sub-ohm, the Z Sub-ohm SE and the Z Subohm Tank 5 use the Z family, but the Z Max runs on M Series coils and the Z Nano 3 on B Series coils. The Z on the box therefore says nothing about compatibility, and each model has to be checked against its own product page.

The Geekvape Zeus tanks at a glance

This table draws on the product pages Geekvape publishes. Capacity is given for the standard edition, then for the TPD edition sold in the UK; an empty cell means the manufacturer’s page does not give the figure.

ZX II RTA26 mm4.5 ml / 2 mlRebuildable deckTakes 810 and 510 drip tips

Retailer listings do not always match these figures. One shop page, for example, quotes 5.5 ml and a 0.25 ohm coil for the Z Sub-ohm, where Geekvape states 5 ml and coils of 0.2 and 0.4 ohm.

Z, M or B, the coil family for each Zeus tank

The answer depends on the exact model. Three coil families coexist in the Z range, and they do not swap between one another.

Z Series and Z XM Boost coils

Z Series coils fit the Z Sub-ohm and the Z Sub-ohm SE. Geekvape rates the 0.2 ohm at 70 to 80 watts, the 0.4 ohm at 50 to 60 watts and the SE’s 0.15 ohm at 70 to 85 watts.

Their successor, the Z XM Boost, comes in 0.15, 0.2 and 0.4 ohm with the same wattage ranges. According to the manufacturer, any device that takes a Z coil can use a Z XM Boost, since both versions share the same interface.

The Z Max and its M Series coils

The Z Max is the exception. Its product page ships it with two M Series coils, a pre-installed 0.14 ohm rated at 60 to 80 watts and a 0.2 ohm rated at 70 to 85 watts. Buying Z coils for a Z Max on the strength of the name alone is the classic mistake in this range.

The Z Nano 3 and B Series coils

Geekvape presents the Z Nano 3 as compatible with B Series coils. Its page does not list the available resistances, so read them on the coil packaging or at the retailer.

Why a Zeus tank holds 2 ml in the UK

The 4, 4.5, 5 and 5.5 ml figures on Geekvape’s international pages do not describe the tanks on British shelves. UK rules cap refillable tanks at 2 ml, and Geekvape publishes a 2 ml TPD edition of the Z Sub-ohm, the Z Sub-ohm SE, the Z Max and the ZX II RTA. Its Z Nano 3 page mentions no TPD edition, and only a version of 2 ml or less can be sold in the UK.

The difference shows in the box. The standard Z Sub-ohm comes with a 3.5 ml spare glass, the TPD edition with a 2 ml one. Nicotine e-liquid is also capped at 20 mg/ml and sold in bottles of 10 ml at most, and our overview of UK vaping laws sets out the rest of the framework.

Filling and airflow across the Zeus range

Every model fills from the top, but not in the same way. On the Z Sub-ohm, the top cap turns a quarter of a turn to expose the fill port. The Z Subohm Tank 5 uses a push cap that stays attached, and Geekvape advises filling slowly without going past the maximum level.

The Z Sub-ohm SE adds a lock on the top cap, which you press before turning to open. For the draw, the manufacturer describes adjustable top airflow on most models, a layout designed to limit leaks from the base of the tank.

Geekvape Zeus, which box mod for which tank

The whole range targets direct-to-lung vaping, with low-resistance coils and outputs of 50 to 85 watts. A Zeus tank therefore needs a regulated box mod able to deliver that power, not a pod kit. Our guide to pods, boxes and tubes explains the difference between the formats.

The Z Sub-ohm and the ZX II RTA, at 26 mm, suit box mods that take that diameter without overhang. The Z Max, 32 mm wide on a 26 mm base, overhangs a mod drawn for a 26 mm tank. The ZX II RTA is aimed at the vaper who builds their own coils on a rebuildable deck.

FAQ

Five practical points when ordering spare parts for a tank in the range.

Do XM Boost coils fit an older Zeus tank?

Yes, according to Geekvape, as long as the tank takes Z Series coils. The manufacturer presents the Z XM Boost as fully interchangeable with the original Z coil. That does not apply to the Z Max or the Z Nano 3, which use other coil families.

How long does a Z Subohm Tank 5 coil last?

Geekvape quotes up to 60 ml of liquid per coil on the Z Subohm Tank 5 page. That is a manufacturer figure, measured in its own conditions. Real coil life depends on the power and the liquid used, and fading flavour remains the best signal to change the coil.

How do I change the coil on a Z Sub-ohm?

Geekvape describes a plug-in coil that pulls out and pushes in without screwing. A coil tool comes in the box. As with any tank, it is worth letting the wick of a new coil soak for a few minutes before the first puff.

Which drip tip does a Zeus tank use?

The Z Sub-ohm and the Z Sub-ohm SE use an 810 drip tip, the wide bore suited to direct-to-lung vaping. The ZX II RTA takes both 810 and 510 drip tips and ships with an 810.

What does “TPD edition” mean on a Geekvape box?

It is the version that complies with the 2 ml tank limit set by the Tobacco and Related Products Regulations in the UK. On Geekvape tanks, the TPD box contains the 2 ml tank and a spare glass of the same capacity, where the standard edition supplies a larger glass.

Geekvape Zeus, check the model before the coil

The Zeus name now covers the whole Geekvape Z range, but not a single compatibility. Before buying parts for a Geekvape Zeus tank, identify the exact model on its box, then the coil family its page lists, Z, M or B.

Capacity comes next, and in Britain it is the 2 ml TPD edition. Reading the spec sheet this carefully pays off with any sub-ohm tank, hardware whose model names change from one generation to the next.
