Vaporesso iTank tanks compared, which model to pick
Search for a Vaporesso iTank and you land mostly on shop listings, nearly all of them describing a single model. Behind that name, though, Vaporesso files several tanks that do not draw air from the same place and are not built for the same style of vaping.
To tell them apart, this comparison follows four criteria: where the airflow sits, which coil family the tank uses, the draw it is designed for, and the capacity actually sold in the UK.
The Vaporesso iTank range, the short answer
The iTank is a line of Vaporesso tanks designed, for the most part, for direct-to-lung vaping. This open draw, often shortened to DTL or DL, means drawing the vapour in a single, open breath with plenty of air. Three models form the core of the range, the original iTank, the iTank 2 and the iTank T, all fitted with GTi mesh coils.
The model most shop listings feature today is the iTank T, sold in a standard and a Dual Mesh version. Vaporesso has also lent the name to smaller kit tanks, such as the iTank M, built for mouth-to-lung vaping, and the iTank X, paired with the Gen Fit 40 kit.
In practice, buying a Vaporesso iTank in Britain comes down to choosing between two airflow layouts, then checking that the tank in the box is the 2 ml edition.
Vaporesso iTank models side by side
The table draws on the product pages Vaporesso publishes for the three GTi coil models, and on two matching retailer listings for the iTank M. “Adjustable” marks a detail the source does not spell out any further.
| Model | Draw | Quoted capacity | Coils in the box | Airflow | Filling |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| iTank | Direct-to-lung | 8 ml, 5 ml or 2 ml (TPD) | GTi 0.2 and 0.4 ohm | Turbo Airflow, three inlets at the base | Top fill |
| iTank 2 | Direct-to-lung | 8 ml or 2 ml (TPD) | GTi 0.2 and 0.4 ohm | Bottom | Top fill, press to open |
| iTank T | Direct-to-lung | 6 ml, 3 ml or 2 ml (TPD) | GTi 0.2 ohm fitted, 0.4 ohm spare | Top | Sliding top cap |
| iTank M | Mouth-to-lung | 3 ml | MTX 1.2 ohm | Adjustable | Top fill |
On size, Vaporesso gives the iTank T a 24.5 mm diameter and a height of 58.4 mm, while the iTank 2 page quotes a height of 59.8 mm. All three GTi coil models come with a spare glass tube and replacement O-rings.
Bottom or top airflow, what splits the iTank range
The main dividing line in the range is where the air comes in. That design choice changes how the tank behaves on the draw and when a wick takes on too much liquid.
iTank and iTank 2, air through the base
The original iTank pulls air through three inlets at its base, a system Vaporesso calls Turbo Airflow and presents as smoother and quieter. Its successor, the iTank 2, keeps a bottom airflow, adjusted with a ring.
Bottom airflow puts the inlets right under the coil. It is the classic layout for sub-ohm tanks (tanks running coils below 1 ohm), where air takes the shortest route through the coil. The known drawback is that excess liquid from a flooded wick finds an easy way out through those same openings.
iTank T, the airflow moves to the top
With the iTank T, Vaporesso turns the principle around. The manufacturer describes air entering at the top of the tank, then travelling down to the coil, with a precision adjustment ring. Retailers present it as top airflow, with two slots the ring opens or closes.
This route keeps the air inlets away from the base, which is where leaks show up on a bottom-airflow tank. The Dual Mesh version of the iTank T keeps exactly the same layout, and only the coil supplied in the box changes.
GTi coils, which resistance for which Vaporesso iTank
The three direct-to-lung models share Vaporesso’s GTi family, coils built around a flat mesh that heats over a wide surface. Only the iTank M stands apart with its own coil family.
The wattage ranges listed for the iTank T
The iTank T page is the most detailed in the range. Vaporesso lists four compatible resistances, each with a wattage range and a recommended setting.
| GTi coil | Wattage range | Recommended | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.15 ohm | 75 to 90 W | 85 W | Compatible |
| 0.2 ohm | 60 to 75 W | 65 W | Fitted as standard |
| 0.4 ohm | 50 to 60 W | 55 W | Spare in the box |
| 0.5 ohm | 30 to 40 W | 35 W | Compatible |
The pages for the iTank and the iTank 2 give the same ranges for the 0.2 and 0.4 ohm coils, the only two supplied in the box. The 0.5 ohm, the most modest of the list, makes the iTank T usable on a mod that does not reach high wattages, an option shop listings rarely mention.
The iTank T Dual Mesh and the iTank M
According to two retailers, the Dual Mesh version of the iTank T ships with GTi Dual Mesh coils of 0.2 and 0.4 ohm, the same values as the standard model. The retailer that describes it in most detail credits it with more even heating, without putting a figure on it.
The iTank M uses a different family, MTX coils, and comes with a 1.2 ohm head. That higher resistance matches its tighter draw and lower power, the opposite of the low GTi coils found in its namesakes.
A Vaporesso iTank in the UK holds 2 ml
The 8, 6 or 5 ml figures found on product pages describe the international editions. Under the Tobacco and Related Products Regulations 2016, refillable tanks sold in the UK are capped at 2 ml, so only an edition of 2 ml or less can be sold here.
Vaporesso does publish that edition for each GTi coil iTank. The manufacturer’s iTank T page reads “6ml/3ml/2ml(TPD)”, TPD being the shorthand for the compliant edition. When comparing tanks, the larger figures therefore say nothing about the one you will actually fill.
The iTank M, quoted at 3 ml, falls under the same rule. Nicotine e-liquid is also capped at 20 mg/ml and sold in bottles of 10 ml at most, and our overview of UK vaping laws sets out the rest of the framework.
Which Vaporesso iTank suits your vaping
The criteria set out at the start make the choice straightforward. Each profile has its model, and one iTank clearly stands out for direct-to-lung vaping.
New to direct-to-lung, the iTank T
Our pick is the iTank T. Its top airflow keeps the air inlets away from the liquid, and its page lists four coil resistances, including a 0.5 ohm that runs at moderate power. It is also the iTank that current shop listings feature most.
If you are unsure whether direct-to-lung vaping is for you, our guide to pods, boxes and tubes sets out the formats and the draw each one suits.
Prefer bottom airflow, the iTank 2
The iTank 2 still makes sense for anyone who likes the air coming in under the coil, the classic sub-ohm layout. It shares its GTi coils with the iTank T, so moving from one tank to the other does not mean switching coil family.
A tight draw, the iTank M
A vaper who prefers mouth-to-lung has nothing to gain from the GTi coil models, which are designed for an open draw. The iTank M, with its 1.2 ohm MTX coil, is the only member of the range built for that style.
For every model, matching coil resistance, wattage and airflow follows the same logic, set out in our guide to vape settings for wattage, coil resistance and airflow.
FAQ
Five questions that come up when buying or looking after a tank from the range.
Which mod suits an iTank T?
A regulated mod with a 510 connection, able to deliver the wattage of the coil fitted, up to 90 W for the lowest resistance. Its top plate should take the tank’s diameter without overhang, a figure the mod’s spec sheet gives in millimetres.
How do I avoid a burnt taste with a new coil?
Let the wick soak for a few minutes after filling before the first puff, then start at the bottom of the wattage range printed on the coil. On an older coil, a burnt taste usually means it has reached the end of its life.
What should I check if an iTank leaks?
Start with the O-rings, spares of which come in the box, then check the tank is screwed firmly onto its base. Filling above the maximum line or a coil that is not pushed fully home can also cause leaks.
Which e-liquid works with GTi coils?
Low-resistance GTi coils run at high wattages and pair well with thicker liquids rich in vegetable glycerine. A very thin liquid can flood the wick, and a very sweet recipe usually gunks it up faster.
Can I change the drip tip on an iTank?
Yes. The iTank 2 and the iTank T use a wide 810 drip tip and take any tip in that format. The iTank M takes narrower 510 tips, suited to a tighter draw.
Vaporesso iTank, the right tank for your draw
Behind the Vaporesso iTank name sit several tanks, and the choice starts with the draw. For direct-to-lung vaping, the iTank T is the most versatile of the range thanks to its top airflow and four GTi coil options, with the iTank 2 as the bottom-airflow alternative. For mouth-to-lung, the iTank M takes over.
Whatever the model, the Vaporesso iTank sold in Britain is the 2 ml edition. Checking the edition before buying is worth doing with any vape hardware, where one name often covers several versions depending on the market.
